Rwanda – Nyamagabe Stories

Nyamagabe Rwanda, photograph by Barry Sherbeck

I’m excited to be returning to Rwanda again this summer, to photograph and film more of the stories of the remarkable people of Nyamagabe. I look forward to seeing our two sponsored girls again, and hearing updated reports of how the community is doing as they work toward sustainable improvements on many fronts.

An beautiful part of the development work there is “Lights for Learning,” a solar powered LED lamp project that is the fruit of the imagination of a friend here in Madison. This project is going into its third year. Soon 10,000 of these lights will be in use by families in Nyamagabe, and the following year, World Vision will implement this project in several other countries in Africa. It makes a HUGE difference for families to be able to have bright light inside their homes after the sun goes down, without the danger and pollution and costs from burning candles or kerosene lanterns.

I’ll be posting updates through the summer as we travel and return and produce short films about these stories. Follow this blog or “like” the Nyamagabe Stories Facebook Page to keep in touch.
